Trunnion Ball Valves
Trunnion valves have been used for thousands of years in hydraulic systems. Hydraulic systems are responsible for many applications including air compressors, water systems, oil systems, gasoline systems, diesel engines, electrical motors, gas lines, pumps and other hydraulic system components. In a hydraulic system, pressure is transmitted through a pump or through a line to a specific pressure vessel that is usually located at a surface. The purpose of these vessels is to transfer the required pressure from the surface to a different source.
A trunnion-ball hydraulic valve (also referred to as a trunnion valve) is a type of valve that works in the same way as a normal ball bearing or a bearing with a threaded hole. A trunnion-ball hydraulic valve has a flat plate at its bottom side that has an opening at its top edge for a threaded pipe to pass through; the plate is connected to a ball mounted on its side.
In some systems, the threaded pipe is made up of a series of ball bearings. Trunnion-ball valves can be either open or closed-end. An open-end ball hydraulic valve has an open plate on its bottom side and a hole in its top edge to pass a threaded pipe into; a closed-end ball hydraulic valve has a similar hole on its top edge but has an unthreaded opening for the threaded pipe to enter; the plate is then sealed between the two plates with a sealing gasket.
The valve’s stationary ball must be positioned in a position where the pipe will pass through it. Once the valve is in this position, the gasket seals the plate against the pipe. This prevents the flow of water out of the water outlet or out of any chamber behind the valve. The seal prevents the water flow from leaking out of the water outlet or through any other leaky or broken valve parts and stops the water from escaping from the water outlet; this prevents the damage from occurring to pipes, pumps and other parts.
Trunnion-ball hydraulic valves also act as a safety mechanism when hydraulic pressure is applied to a fluid; when the fluid pressure increases beyond the capacity of a single valve, the closing of the ball stops the fluid flow in the valves and also stops the water flow. until the pressure reaches the correct capacity again. Once the pressure reaches the appropriate level, the ball is opened and the fluid resumes its normal pressure. This is also a safety mechanism when a motor fails to complete its function or when a pump becomes overheated.
A trunnion-ball hydraulic valve can be found in the hydraulic system of many industrial and manufacturing applications, including oil and gas compressors, water compressors, oil and gas turbines, water-jetting machines, compressors, water pumps, pumps, compressors, oil systems and many other components that need to work at high pressure. Some common applications include: gas compressors, electric motors, oil wells, engines, oil wells, air compressors, pumps, turbines, and air compressors, condensate heat exchangers, pump and compressor systems, compressors, motors, transmission fluid, water systems, generators, gasoline and steam engines. These types of hydraulic valves are widely used in the construction of oil, gas and electric heating and cooling systems, as well as in the automotive industry.
